Editorial
Editorial Policy
Who decides what goes on this site, how errors get fixed, where our facts come from, and the specific things we will not publish.
Independence
No brand pays for placement, review or ranking position on Glass & Ridge. No manufacturer sees a page before it publishes, no manufacturer has any right of review or veto over a verdict, and no commercial relationship has ever changed an ordering or a score on this site.
We are funded entirely by affiliate commission, which is disclosed in full on the affiliate disclosure page and on every page that contains a product link. The structural protection against commission influencing verdicts is that our ranking criteria and their weights are published before the picks, and each pick's score breaks down against them - so an ordering that did not follow our own stated rules would be visible to you.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. Email contact@glassandridge.com, and if you can point at the manufacturer's published specification or another verifiable source that contradicts us, that is all the argument needed.
How we handle it:
- A factual error - a wrong spec, a misattributed quote, a product described as something it is not - is corrected as soon as we can verify the correct figure.
- A substantive correction gets a visible note on the page saying what changed, so a reader who saw the earlier version is not left wondering.
- The "last reviewed" date moves when a page's content actually changes. We do not bump dates to look fresh, and a page whose date has not moved in six months has genuinely not changed.
- A discontinued product is replaced rather than left as a dead recommendation. If a model we picked is no longer sold, the page says so and names what replaced it.
Update cadence
- Prices: checked daily, and hidden automatically if a check is missed for 48 hours. The fallback is the words "Check price", never an older number.
- Roundups: re-verified quarterly - specifications re-read from the manufacturer's page, picks reconsidered, discontinued products replaced.
- Single-product reviews: re-verified twice a year.
Sourcing standards
Every factual claim on this site falls into one of these categories, and is handled accordingly:
- A published specification - magnification, objective, field of view, eye relief, weight, stated range - is read off the manufacturer's own page and stamped with the date we read it, with the URL in the page's Sources section.
- A derived optical figure - exit pupil, twilight factor, a field-of-view conversion - is computed by us with the formula shown. We never quote a derived figure we did not derive.
- A performance characteristic that is not in a spec sheet - edge sharpness, low-light behavior, glare control, how a focus wheel feels in the cold - is attributed to a named expert publication or to named owner-review consensus. It is never asserted as our own observation.
- A price comes from the live price layer with a date, or it does not appear.
- Where the evidence is thin, the page says so, and the product is not ranked above ones we can substantiate.
- Where experts and owners disagree, we present both rather than averaging them into something bland.
What we will not publish
This list is specific because vagueness here is how sites in this category drift.
- Fabricated testing claims. We do not run a lab. No page on this site says "in our testing", describes days behind a product we have not used, or presents a photograph as our own.
- Invented credentials. No certifications, guiding licenses, professional memberships, years-of-experience figures or named hunts beyond what is stated on the about page.
- Fabricated prices, ratings or review counts. No remembered prices, no cached-and-stale numbers, no aggregate rating we do not own.
- Fabricated testimonials. This site is new and has no review corpus, so it has no testimonials section at all rather than a manufactured one.
- Manufactured urgency. No "limited time", no "lowest price guaranteed", no countdowns. We do not control inventory or pricing, so any such claim would be unsupportable.
- Paid placement presented as editorial. If that ever changes, it will be labeled on the page and here.
